🔍 Training Focus: The “Steady Signal”
Teach your dog to trust your consistency by maintaining predictable responses.
Drill:
- Pick a daily routine moment (e.g., before feeding or walking).
- Use one simple cue (like “wait”) every time, same tone, same posture.
- If they act out (jumping, whining), pause and reset—no reaction, no extra words.
- When they comply calmly, mark with a quiet “good” and proceed (feed, leash up, etc.).
- Do this 2–3 times daily, same way, same cue, for 7 days straight.
Builds:
- Trust in your predictable signals
- Calm compliance without overthinking
- A bond rooted in reliability
Your dog learns: “I know what to expect, and I trust you to deliver.”
🌴 OC Fieldwork: Irvine Regional Park
Wide trails and quiet corners—perfect for consistent training.
Assignment:
🎯 One dog, early morning Monday or Wednesday.
- 10 min “Steady Signal” near the park entrance—use “wait” before starting a walk, same cue, same tone.
- Move to a slow walk on the main trail, pausing if they pull, using the same cue to reset.
- End with a directed sniff (point to a bush) as a calm reward.
Your consistency is their clarity. Stay steady.
