Howdy, Orange County dog enthusiasts! Tommy Stark here from DogTrainerOC.com, bringing you the latest scoop to keep your pups happy and thriving. With the sun shining bright and the Pacific breeze calling, it’s time to dive into a week of canine adventures, training tips, and coastal fun. Let’s make those tails wag!
Picture this: Your dog mastering sit-stay like a pro, ignoring distractions with laser focus, and turning every neighborhood stroll into a smooth, joyful jaunt. That's the transformation waiting in my Beginner Obedience Series at Dee Dog Park in San Juan Capistrano. Kicking off October 18 at 10 AM, this 5-week program dives deep into the essentials—think rock-solid recalls, polite greetings, and that elusive loose-leash vibe—all in a supportive outdoor setting where pups learn to prioritize you above all else.
I've honed this curriculum over 20 years, blending body language cues, positive reinforcement, and real-world distractions to build trust and confidence that lasts. Whether you're starting with a bouncy puppy or fine-tuning an adult dog, expect hands-on drills, progress trackers, and that "aha" moment when your pup finally gets it.
Get ready to strut with your pup at THE Pack Walk of OC, happening November 8 at 3:30 PM at Laguna Niguel Regional Park. Partnering with Emily Haley, this free community event is all about structured socialization amidst gorgeous trails and open spaces. We keep dogs focused on their handlers with no off-leash greetings, helping them build calm confidence in a group setting.
Here’s a game-changer: If you’re telling your dog to “stay,” you must give them a clear endpoint. A “stay” without a release cue is like leaving your pup in limbo—confusing and unfair. Start with short holds (5-10 seconds) in a low-distraction spot, using a cue like “sit” or “down.” Pair it with a release word like “okay” or “free,” then reward with a treat or praise the moment you release them. Gradually increase time and distractions, but always end the “stay” clearly. This builds trust and clarity, making your pup’s obedience razor-sharp.
Craving a coastal escape? Dana Point Harbor is your pup’s ticket to paradise. Stroll the scenic marina with your leashed dog, soaking in ocean breezes and boat-watching vibes. Wide paths and grassy patches make it ideal for a game of fetch or a relaxed sniff-fest. Visit early to dodge the crowds and enjoy a coffee while your pup takes in the sights. Search “dog-friendly spots Orange County” and this gem always tops the list!
Fresh from the science lab: A new study in The New York Times (October 7, 2025) spotlights how dogs could become our secret weapons against environmental toxins. Researchers from the Dog Aging Project are using pups’ sensitivity to pollutants—like tracking them via silicone tags on collars—to uncover health risks that hit both dogs and humans hard. It’s a win-win: Better awareness for cleaner air and water, plus more reasons to advocate for your dog’s outdoor romps. Dive into the full story here for that eye-opening read!
That’s the Weekly Woof, packed with everything you need to keep your dog’s tail wagging in South OC. Got training questions or want to share your pup’s progress? Hit me up at DogTrainerOC.com or follow @ocdogtrainer on Instagram.

I do my weekly schedule based on your locations/availability - this reduces chances of getting into traffic delays between lessons plus maximizes the amount of dogs I can help on a daily basis.
Please give me more than one option when giving your availability if possible. Makes organizing the calendar much easier. You can also give priority times if you wish.
Sunday evening when I send out the events please confirm/accept the invite if you can.
This does not apply to new clients New clients do NOT pay before lessons if we have not met
Clients with packages will be scheduled first. Those without packages will fill in open spots on a location basis. If there is no space in the calendar for the week, I will add you to a waiting list for last minute cancellations.
•The cut off is (Sunday) at 6pm IF you would like to train this week and list a few dates and times that work for you. I will respond to you by Sunday at 8 PM with your confirmed day and time via Google Event. Once you receive the “Google Event” email please hit “accept” so that I know you have received it.
**Please allow for a potential delay of 10-15 mins arrival time based on traffic and lessons going longer - especially late in the day.
Please make sure that you have registered before filling in the availability box below. Once that form is filled out then your "Information card" is added to my system and then the availability will work.
You only register ONE time and it will create your trello card for my system to keep me organized.
